9 Easy Ways to Use Your Favourite AI for SEO

Mar 6, 2026

TL;DR Here's the summary:

AI can make SEO faster, less intimidating and much easier to start, especially for small business owners doing it themselves. Use it for keyword ideas, page titles, meta descriptions, blog outlines, FAQs, internal links and simplifying technical SEO. Just remember: AI is the assistant, not the strategist. You still need your judgement, experience and a bit of healthy scepticism.

How AI Is Changing SEO Faster Than Any Algorithm Update

SEO is permanently in a state of change. Nothing stands still in this world, with new advances, tweaks to the algorithms, and Google’s ever-shifting rulebook. But the arrival of AI tools like ChatGPT feels less like a development and more like a seismic shift in how the whole game works.

For years, a lot of SEO knowledge sat behind agencies, consultants like myself and expensive tools. If you were a small business owner or website manager trying to figure it out yourself, it could feel frustratingly opaque. Keyword research, content planning, meta tags, search intent – it was all doable, but it often required time, training, expensive tools and a generous dollop of trial and error.

AI is changing that dynamic.

Tools like ChatGPT suddenly make many of the practical parts of SEO faster, easier and far more accessible. You can brainstorm keywords in seconds, generate content structures instantly, and quickly refine things like page titles and descriptions without staring at a blank screen for an hour.

And honestly, as an SEO consultant and coach, I’m delighted about that.

I’ve always been slightly evangelical about teaching SEO rather than hoarding it. The more business owners and website managers understand about how search works, the better the web becomes. Better content. Better websites. I’m certainly no fan of vague “SEO packages” that promise the world and deliver very little.

So, first thing to say: AI doesn’t replace SEO knowledge or the human touch – and they are both it important. But it does place powerful tools into the hands of people who actually run their own websites, which is exactly where they should be.

SEO Knowledge Is Finally Becoming Accessible to Everyone

So rather than fearing AI, the smarter move is to learn how to use it properly. And I do want to stress, I use all of the strategies below myself, and I use many of them every day in real-life SEO work. Not in a theoretical “this might be useful one day” sort of way, but in the practical, messy, real-world way that SEO usually happens.

The prompts in this post are meant as guides – not sacred instructions carved into stone tablets by the algorithm gods. You may want to change them, improve them, make them more specific to your business, or add extra context. In fact, you probably should. The first rule of using AI is that the better the prompt, the better the output. AI is helpful, but it still needs steering.

Here are nine practical ways I’m using ChatGPT to make DIY SEO easier, faster and a lot less mysterious.

1. Generate Keyword Ideas Quickly

Keyword research tools are brilliant, but sometimes you just need a quick list of related ideas to explore.

ChatGPT is surprisingly good at expanding a seed keyword into useful variations, especially for blog topics and long-tail searches.

For example, if you run a plumbing business, you might want to explore related informational searches people make before hiring someone.

Sample Prompt

Act as an SEO specialist.
Generate 30 long-tail keyword ideas related to "my subject".
Group them into informational, commercial, and local search intent.

You’ll quickly get ideas like:

  • how much does boiler repair cost
  • boiler making loud noise fix
  • emergency boiler repair near me
  • when to replace vs repair a boiler

From there, you can take the promising ones into your preferred keyword tool and check search volume and difficulty.

2. Write SEO Page Titles That Actually Get Clicks

Writing SEO titles sounds simple until you actually try to do it properly. In fact it’s an incredibly disciplined practice – 60 charecters, make it sound attractive, include a keyword etc etc.

Because a strong page title must:

  • include the primary keyword
  • be between 55-60 characters long
  • be compelling enough to click

Remember, your SEO page title appears in Google search results. That means it’s not just about ranking – it’s about persuading someone to choose your result over all the other results they see.

This is where the discipline comes in. Writing a good title is a bit like the old-school Twitter limit of 140 characters. You have very little space, and every word has to earn its place.

AI is very useful for generating any number of variations quickly.

Sample Prompt

Write 10 SEO page title options for a blog post targeting the keyword
"DIY SEO tips for small businesses". Keep each title to 55-60 characters
and make them compelling for search results.

You can then pick the best one and tweak it.

By the way, the best approach is often to incorporate some human editing after AI generation. Annoying, perhaps, but usually true.

3. Craft Meta Descriptions That Encourage the Click

Meta descriptions are another underrated SEO discipline.

Strictly speaking, they don’t directly affect rankings. But they do influence click-through rate, which absolutely matters.

Just like titles, your meta description shows up in Google search results, so it needs to:

  • reinforce the keyword topic
  • summarise the value of the page
  • persuade the searcher to click

And you’ve got around 150-160 characters to do it.

Again, it’s a bit like writing short-form social media copy. Tight. Focused. No wasted words.

Sample Prompt

Write 10 SEO meta descriptions between 155-160 characters for a blog post about
DIY SEO using ChatGPT. Include the keyword "DIY SEO".

Over the last 3 years I’ve learned that it’s better to have a bunch of answers when using prompts like this with AI. That way you’ll usually get a handful of very usable options, which you can further refine.

4. Turn Keywords into Blog Topic Ideas

A common DIY SEO problem is this:

You’ve got keywords, but you don’t quite know what the article should be about.

ChatGPT can bridge that gap by turning keywords into actual content angles.

Sample Prompt

Create 10 blog post ideas targeting small business owners learning SEO.
Each title should target a specific search intent and include a clear benefit.

This will produce ideas like:

  • SEO mistakes small businesses make
  • how to optimise your homepage for local SEO
  • simple SEO checks you can do in 10 minutes

Much easier to work with. Again, tweak this prompt and make it your own. I sometimes add in an instruction to look at some of the best, most popular bloggers in my sector, and then ask AI to come up with ideas based on their blogs…

5. Create Blog Outlines That Match Search Intent

One of the most useful ways to use ChatGPT is for structuring content before writing.

Instead of staring at a blank page, you can generate a structured outline for your next blog post.

Sample Prompt

Create an SEO-friendly blog outline for the topic "DIY SEO for beginners".
Include H1, H2, and H3 headings and ensure it matches informational search intent.

You’ll instantly get a logical structure, which you can then refine based on the search results you’re competing with.

6. Improve Existing Content

Many websites are sitting on half-decent content that just needs improving.

ChatGPT can help identify what’s missing.

Sample Prompt

Review this blog post and suggest SEO improvements.
Focus on headings, keyword relevance, readability and missing sections.

Paste in the article and you’ll usually get suggestions such as:

  • adding FAQs
  • improving headings
  • expanding certain sections
  • adding internal links

It’s basically a quick SEO content audit.

7. Generate FAQ Sections for Rich Results

FAQ sections are useful for two reasons:

  • They help answer additional search queries.
  • They can sometimes support more useful, expanded content in search results.

ChatGPT is very good at generating relevant FAQs.

Sample Prompt

Create 6 FAQs related to DIY SEO for beginners.
Each answer should be concise and around 50 words.

You can then add these to the bottom of your article.

8. Brainstorm Internal Linking Opportunities

Internal linking is one of the easiest SEO wins, yet it’s often overlooked.

ChatGPT can help you identify logical linking opportunities across your site.

Sample Prompt

Suggest internal linking opportunities for a blog post about DIY SEO.
Assume the website also has articles about keyword research, local SEO and
Google Search Console.

This helps reinforce topical relevance across your site and makes it easier for readers to find the next useful thing.

9. Simplify Technical SEO Concepts

Sometimes you read something about SEO, but simply don’t get it. I understand, this is not a pretty subject.

But tools like ChatGPT are very handy for translating technical topics into plain English. So if at first you just don’t get it, call for the rewrite!

Sample Prompt

Explain technical SEO to a small business owner with no SEO experience.
Keep the explanation simple and practical.

You’ll get a clearer explanation that you can use in blogs, guides or service pages.
